COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – April 30, 2012 – Susan Grace, Colorado College’s artist-in-residence, lecturer in music, and music director of the Summer Music Festival will perform at Carnegie Hall at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 10 as part of Carnegie Hall’s six-day “Spring for Music” concert series.
Grace is a member of the acclaimed piano duo Quattro Mani, composed of Grace and Alice Rybak of the University of Denver. They will perform Paul Lansky’s “Shapeshifters” with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Justin Brown. “Shapeshifters” is a concerto for two pianos and orchestra in four movements, and was composed for Quattro Mani (“four hands”).
This marks Quattro Mani’s sixth appearance at Carnegie Hall since their New York debut in January 2001, and the first time they have appeared in the Main Hall. Previously they have performed in Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall.
Formed in 1989, the duo has performed throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia to national and international acclaim. Their recordings include a CD of Pulitzer Prize-winning George Crumb's two-piano compositions, and their recording of his “Otherworldly Resonances” was listed by Amazon.com as one of the top 10 classical recordings of 2004. Additionally, their recording of the Poulenc, Bartok, and Milhaud Concertos with the 2006 CC Summer Music Festival Orchestra was released by Bridge Records. Quattro Mani is on the International Roster of Steinway Artists.
The “Spring for Music” concert series, an innovative festival of North American symphony and chamber orchestras, was inaugurated last year and was highly successful. This year it runs from May 7 through May 12. More information on the programming is available at www.springformusic.com
